According to statistics from the Secretariat of the Titanium Dioxide Industry Technology Innovation Strategy Alliance and the Titanium Dioxide Branch of the Chemical Industry Productivity Promotion Center, the effective total production capacity of titanium dioxide in the entire industry is 4.7 million tons/year in 2022. The total output is 3.914 million tons which means the capacity utilization rate is 83.28%.
According to Bi Sheng, Secretary General of the Titanium Dioxide Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance and Director of the Titanium Dioxide Branch of the Chemical Industry Productivity Promotion Center, last year there was one mega enterprise with an actual output of titanium dioxide exceeding 1 million tons; 11 large enterprises with a production amount of 100,000 tons or more; 7 medium-sized enterprises with a production amount of 50,000 to 100,000 tons. The remaining 25 manufacturers were all small and micro enterprises in 2022. The comprehensive output of Chloride process titanium dioxide in 2022 was 497,000 tons, an increase of 120,000 tons and 3.19% over the previous year. The output of Chlorination titanium dioxide accounted for 12.7% of the country’s total output in that year. It accounted for 15.24% of the output of rutile titanium dioxide in that year, which increased significantly compared with the previous year.
Mr. Bi pointed out that at least 6 projects would be completed and put in production, with an additional scale of more than 610,000 tons/year from 2022 to 2023 among the existing titanium dioxide manufacturers. There are at least 4 non-industry investment in titanium dioxide projects bringing production capacity of 660,000 tons/ year in 2023. Therefore, by the end of 2023, China’s total titanium dioxide production capacity will reach at least 6 million tons per year.
